We dont often get hardware numbers for consoles in Australia so were in for a treat today as GfK have revealed the 2nd quarter sales for every game console as well as updated Lifetime to Date charts. For the period of April to June 2007 the Nintendo DS has remained the top selling console, selling an amazingly high 74, 435 units with the PS2 the next system down on 45, 962. The Wii places second to the PS3 for the quarter with 26,676 compared to the 27,645 of that of the PS3s, the Xbox 360 continues to plug along at 21,440 with the PSP bring up the rear on 20,068. No surprises there and the PS3 is shifting despite its heavy price but the Wii is not far behind and didnt launch a mere 7 days before the reported period.
More Inside Moving to Lifetime to Date sales we find the PS2 sitting pretty on 2,052,193 units well above the Nintendo DS which is on 589,873 in second place. The next console after is the PSP on 288,757 and then finally the next gen consoles register mention. The Xbox 360 just short of 200,000 on 181,561 with the Wii as reported just over 100,000 at 106,538, the newest console the PS3 is naturally last on 54,728.
So what does these figures mean for Nintendo? The DS is doing great and blowing everyone away, no need to be concerned about that as Pokemon, More Brain Training will continue to fuel that. The Wii on the other hand while doing great (and sure of a hell lot better then GameCube) could be doing better, the complete lack of releases in April and May (well good releases) could be catalyst for the Wiis figures but they arent bad by any stretch of the imagination.
