Nintendo Europe celebrates a great 2009 with more sales records tumbling.

With 2009 done and dusted, it’s bragging season; Nintendo first out of the gate by proclaiming that the DS is now the best selling console in Europe and the Wii is now the fastest selling console.
In 2009 the total install base of the Nintendo DS in Europe reached 40 million sold since its launch on March 11 2005. The Wii is selling exceptionally quickly too, with now more than 20 million units sold since 2006.

Software for Nintendo has also been going well with 5 million Wii Sports Resort copies sold and ‘nearly half’ of all Wii owners in Europe owning either Wii Fit or Wii Fit Plus. New Super Mario Bros Wii has also got off to a good start with 2.5 million copies now invading peoples’ homes.
