Nintendo is set to sell the 8 millionth Wii console in their homelands soon, according to Japanese game magazine Famitsu. The current position of 7.95 million sold puts the Wii within striking distance of double the amount achieved by its predecessor the Gamecube which only sold 4.02 million over its lifespan in Japan. More inside The figure puts the Wii well ahead of its next nearest competitor- Sonys Playstation 3, despite an apparent drop in sales momentum over 2008. This is expected to improve over 2009, with the next entries in Japanese mega-franchises Monster Hunter (Capcom) and Dragon Quest (Square Enix) being made exclusively for the Wii – two franchises that get the Japanese absolutely spend-crazy.
